Working Your Way Up the Cerro Hoya National Park

Panama, similar to its neighbors in Latin America, has established a number of different national parks in order to protect the unique and biodiverse species that thrive in them. These national parks have played an instrumental role in preserving the environment and introducing eco tourism to the rest of the populace. You will find that anywhere you go in Panama, there is always a national park in the area. This is testament to the government's dedication to the environment and the sheer natural wealth that you can find here.

In the Veraguas province, for example, there's the Cerro Hoya National Park. The national park covers much of the southwest part of the Azuero Peninsula. It is mainly composed of mountainous regions, which means navigating your way around would take a lot of physical effort.

The place is relatively more biodiverse than other national parks here in Panama, for the reason that it is home to multiple kinds of tropical climates. Near the coasts, you will be greeted with moist tropical rainforests, while near the center, low-mountain rainforests can be found. This allows for more kinds of birds and other animals to thrive. Nearly 100 bird species live in this national park, including the endangered scarlet macaw.

As mentioned above, navigating your way around the Cerro Hoya National Park can be pretty tough. If you want to go anywhere, you will have to climb up very steep hikes and work your way through paths that are not usually passed through. Compared to other national parks, Cerro Hoya is not among the most visited precisely because it takes a great deal of physical effort.

But whatever you exert in terms of physical strength, the more you take in in terms of visual delights. From the animals (the painted parakeet comes into mind) to the wide array of trees, the Cerro Hoya lives up to its reputation as a source of visual delight to many Panamanians and tourists. See it and judge for yourself.
