Going to a museum is not exactly on top of most people's list whenever they go to Panama, since these activities are usually reserved stereotypically for places in Europe and New York. Nonetheless, there are a couple of art options in this country that you can check should you want to familiarize yourself more with local art.

One museum of interest is the Museum of Contemporary Art, the only museum specializing in contemporary art within the entire country. As such, it is a must-see for those who are interested in contemporary art as this museum houses some of the finest works from Panamanian artists.

Like a lot of other museums in the region, the Museum of Contemporary Art has this mission of acquisition, preservation, and promotion of visual works not only of artists in Panama but in the entire Latin American region as well. The Museum plays a major role in instilling a sense of art among Panamanians.

Aside from the permanent collection of visual works, there is also a library full of books, catalogues, engravings, and other materials that tell the art history of Panama. The Museum also holds regular activities for tour groups, especially children. Painting and drawing workshops and classes are held all year round for people who want to enhance their painting and drawing skills. For those planning to hold their art events, the Museum of Contemporary Art may also play host to international and national art conferences.

The probable downside here is that the Museum itself is pretty difficult to find as it is still in the process of attracting the attention of Panamanians.
